We are a group of nutrition and fitness fanatics who have
been researching and evaluating diet, weight loss, and
fitness programs for many years.
Rather than keeping the fruits of our labors all to
ourselves, we decided to create this site so we can share
our findings with anyone who is "fighting the good fight" of
health and
fitness along with us.
We have agreed upon the following essential principles in
determining the quality and effectiveness of any weight loss
program. A program that adheres to more of these principles
than another is the better program of the two:
- Long-term health is more important than any other
factor.
- Addressing the psychological and emotional needs
of the individual.
- Educating the individual on the essential principles of
nutrition and health.
- Stressing that reducing body fat percentage to a healthy
level, and maintaining that level, are the essential goal of
any weight loss program.
- Clearly differentiating between fat mass and lean body
mass.
- Teaching that loss of lean body mass is bad, fat
loss is good (but not below healthy levels).
- Pointing out the inherent
flaws of the Body Mass Index (BMI) method of determining
ideal body weight, along with any other method that does not
differentiate between lean body mass and fat mass.
- Demystifying the scientific principles of energy balance
- the relationship between
caloric intake and body mass gain or loss.
- Maintaining a moderate caloric deficit of no more than
30% below maintenance levels. (however, a short-term fast -
or drastically reduced calorie intake - will not rule out a
particular program if sound arguments are presented in
support of it)
- Teaching that each individual is unique. What works for
one person may not work for another.
- Stressing that regular aerobic AND strength training
exercise are essential to the long term success of any diet
program.
With these principles in mind, we evaluate as many weight
